A roof is a system, not a layer of shingles
Most roof failures don't start with the shingles. They start below — at a rusted nail, a gap in the underlayment, a rotted section of decking, or a roof that was never vented enough to let North Texas heat escape. When we replace a roof, we replace the system: everything from the deck up, corrected as we go.
Full tear-off
We strip the roof down to the wood decking. It costs more than roofing over the top of your old shingles, and it's the only way to see what's actually happening under there. Overlays add weight, trap heat, hide problems, and usually void the shingle warranty. We don't do them.
Decking and dry-in
With the roof open, we replace any decking that's soft, delaminated, or storm-damaged, and we bring spacing up to code where older homes fall short. Then we dry the roof in — synthetic underlayment across the field, and a self-adhered ice-and-water membrane in the valleys and around every penetration, where leaks actually begin.
Ventilation
An under-ventilated attic cooks a roof from below and can cut a shingle's life nearly in half in the Texas summer. We balance intake and exhaust — usually ridge vents paired with soffit intake — so the whole system breathes. It's the least visible part of the job and one of the most important.
Shingles and finish
We install GAF and Owens Corning architectural and designer shingles, including impact-resistant (Class 4) lines that can lower your insurance premium in hail country. Then the details that separate a good roof from a lasting one: proper starter and ridge cap, new pipe boots and flashing, and color-matched drip edge. We finish the same day where we can, and we sweep the yard with a magnet before we leave.
Timeline
Most homes: one day on the roof. Steep-slope, multi-story, or heavy-decking jobs: two to three. You'll have a foreman on site the whole time and one number to call after.
We register the warranty on every roof we install. If it isn't registered, it isn't really warrantied — and a surprising number of roofs out there aren't.
Common questions
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most Dallas–Fort Worth homes are torn off and re-roofed in a single day. Steep-slope or heavy-decking jobs run two to three. We protect landscaping and finish with a magnetic nail sweep each evening.
Can you just roof over my old shingles?
We don't recommend it. An overlay hides rotted decking, adds weight, shortens the new roof's life, and often voids the manufacturer's warranty. We tear off to the deck so we can inspect and correct what's underneath.
What drives the cost of a new roof?
